Exploring Machining Careers and Large-Scale Machinery

Grafton Job Corps Advanced Manufacturing students had the opportunity to tour Primetals

Technologies during their recent trade field trip. Primetals, in Sutton, MA is a leader in the design and supply of advanced machinery for the metals industry. The tour, designed to provide students with valuable insight into real-world machining operations, allowed them to witness large-scale machinery in action and learn about the intricacies of manufacturing at an industrial level.

Throughout the visit, students were engaged and attentive, demonstrating their commitment to learning. They followed all safety protocols with precision, reflecting the high standards set by their instructor, here at the Hub. Tour guides Jared and Todd commended the students for their excellent behavior and adherence to safety guidelines, ensuring that everyone remained safe in such a dynamic and high-tech environment.

One of the stand-out aspects of the visit was the students’ curiosity and eagerness to learn. As they walked through the state-of-the-art facility, they asked insightful and thought-provoking questions that sparked meaningful discussions with their tour guides. Their questions touched on various topics, including machine capabilities, production processes, and the skills required to operate such sophisticated technology.

As the tour concluded, students were excited about the potential career opportunities in

advanced manufacturing. Many of them expressed a renewed sense of determination to hone their skills and study even harder to work for such a company. The experience highlighted the importance of hands-on learning and the value of seeing the practical applications of their coursework in action.
